Orthopaedics ~ Nottingham

Mr K Sehat MBChB, FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in surgery for conditions of the adult knee and hip as well as trauma and injuries. He is based at Nottingham University Hospital, an internationally renowned orthopaedic unit for both traumatic and degenerative conditions.

Knee replacement surgery:
This surgery is effective for relieving pain in severe cases of knee arthritis.
I perform Computer-Guided Individualised surgery for the closest match between each patient’s knee and the implant. I have the most expertise in the local area, having used this technique since 2013.

I use the latest generation of the ‘Orthopilot’ computer guided system which I helped develop. I routinely train surgeons from around the world in these techniques at a specialist facility in Germany.

High quality implants are equally important. I am the only surgeon in Nottingham trained in the Columbus knee system; one of only a few implants with top-tier reliability as identified by the National Joint Registry with 15 year follow up data. It is available with a unique ceramic coating which is harder wearing than standard implants.

I also offer ‘Conformis’ bespoke knee replacements, for the best possible fit, available privately at additional cost.

To date, none of my patients treated at Spire Nottingham Hospital has developed an infection or required revision surgery following knee replacement, indicating a low likelihood of complications in the future.

Hip replacements:
Hip replacement surgery is highly effective at relieving pain from severe hip arthritis.
Recent evidence shows that the ‘cemented tapered’ hip implants commonly used in the UK have a higher failure rates than previously thought, with one brand having already been withdrawn.
I recognised this several years ago and I am the only surgeon in Nottingham already experienced with the Excia-Plasmafit implant system which achieves superior results. This can be combined with a hard-wearing fully ceramic bearing. A biologically integrating version is preferable for certain types of hip.  These advanced hip replacements have a realistic chance of lasting for life even in younger patients.

To date none of my patients treated at Spire Nottingham Hospital has developed an infection or suffered a dislocation after hip replacement, indicating a low likelihood of complications in the future.

Hip tendon problems:
Many cases of hip pain or weakness result from tendon degeneration or inflammation, with or without arthritis. While most surgeons focus on performing hip replacements, I have experience in surgical repair of hip tendons.
